New interviews were added to the project. Three people who
had worked with, or had close ties to, Interstate were filmed
in Houston's last operating Interstate Theatre, the Landmark
River Oaks.
Dan Sessions, who initially inspired the producer to undertake
the film, had been an usher at Houston's most opulent Interstate
movie palace, the Majestic. Dan now works in Houston as a audio
producer for the commercial and documentary market.
Charles Krohn is a well loved acting member of Houston's Alley
Theatre troupe, and began his career in the theatre as an usher,
then assistant manager, at Houston's Interstate Alabama and Tower
Theatre. Even Charles's mother worked for Interstate as the Tower
Theatre's cashier.
Joe Leydon is a respected movie critic and author who regularly
writes a column for Variety and has also written movie reviews
for the San Francisco Examiner, The Los Angeles Times, Newsday,
New York Daily News, and the Houston Post. Joe grew up in New
Orleans and regularly visited one of Interstate's few out-of-Texas
venues, the Saenger.
His book "Joe Leydon's Guide to Essential Movies You Must See" will
be published in August 2004 by Michael Wiese Productions.
