The producers recently shot an interview with Oscar®
and Pulitzer Prize winning author, playwright and screenwriter
Horton Foote. Mr. Foote grew up in Wharton Texas, just outside
of Houston. As a young man, he took the train in to Houston to
go to the downtown Interstate theaters, the Kirby, Metropolitan,
and the Majestic to see movies and vaudeville acts. He recounted
in his interview that the only time he ever saw his father cry
was at a movie at the Metropolitan, Al Jolson's 1928, The Singing
Fool.
Mr. Foote also worked for Interstate while he was studying acting
in Dallas. He was, for one summer, an usher at the downtown Dallas
Majestic Theatre.
