Dear Mr. Mills:
Thank you for informing
us of your Interstates Theatres' documentary project. Greater
Houston Preservation Alliance is committed to promoting the preservation
and appreciation of Houston's historic architectural and cultural
resources. Projects such as yours are of great interest to our
organization.
Interstate Theatres
played an important role in Houston history. Unfortunately, few
of the buildings survive and only one, the River Oaks, continues
to operate as a movie theater. The loss of these theaters makes
the documentation of their history all the more important. Your
program and the proposed website could help Houstonians appreciate
the historical value of the remaining Interstate buildings and
understand the significance of the local landmarks we have lost.
It is important that
any potential underwriters understand that the documentary and
website are your projects. As an advocacy group, Greater Houston
Preservation Alliance does not make financial contributions to
other organizations, and funding for the Interstate Theatres documentary
does not provide financial support for GHPA.
I'm sure our members
will be very interested in seeing the completed documentary. The
finished product could also qualify for our annual Good Brick
Awards, so please keep us advised of your progress.
Good luck in this
endeavor.
Sincerely, |
